BIOGRAPHY

Nate Nall is a Trumpeter/Educator/Composer residing in Kansas City. He has performed across the USA, as well as in parts of Europe and Mexico. Nall is a proud part of the rich jazz tradition in KC. He performs a wide variety of musical genre and can be seen in some of the best ensembles in KC playing small group jazz, big band lead, horn section(pop, rock, RnB, funk, gospel, salsa), musical theater, symphony pops, and church music .

In 2016, Nall won 2nd place in the distinguished National Trumpet Competition Jazz Division and in 2014 was a residency participant in Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead performing original music at Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Center. He has performed at Kansas City's most prominent jazz venues, including the Blue Room at the American Jazz Museum and Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

He leads his own group, the Nate Nall Quintet, performing original compositions and arrangements and has released two albums as a leader: “Thank God for the little things EP” (2020) and “Places to Go” (2017). He has been a featured soloist in concert with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra with Deborah Brown, Kirk Whalum and the New York Voices. He has also performed with jazz messenger Bobby Watson, of whom Nall is a former student. He has been featured on the nationally syndicated "12th St. Jump" jazz radio program and in 2021, performed for the JEN (Jazz Education Network) conference with the Marcus Lewis Big Band/Brass and Boujee as a featured soloist in the ensemble. Nall was a member of the inaugural “Riff Generation” ensemble with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra in 2022, performing original compositions by some of Kansas City's finest musicians.

Other highlights include performing with The Temptations, Michael Feinstein, Bobby Watson’s 18th and Vine Big Band with Jon Faddis, Kansas City Symphony, Jerry Bergonzi and KU All Star Big Band, Paducah Symphony Orchestra with trumpeter Allen Vizzutti, and Fountain City Brass Band for US Open Brass Band Championship winning concerts.
Nate performs regularly around Kansas City with:
The Project H, Marcus Lewis Big Band (Brass and Boujee), Vine Street Rumble, Louis Neal Big Band, the David Basse/Joe Cartwright Septet, Patrick Lentz Band/KC FLO, Musical Theater Heritage, David George Band, and Joey Panella Trio among others.

As an educator, He is passionate about helping students cultivate their musical voices and build solid foundations of instrumental technique and ensemble playing. Nall has taught private music lessons in the Kansas City area since 2011 and was formerly on faculty with The Culture House Music School, Base Academy of Music and Harmony Project KC.
Currently as an Adjunct Jazz Trumpet Professor, Nall teaches lessons at UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, Mid-America Nazarene University, and Wichita State University. At Mid-America Nazarene, Nall also teaches Jazz Improvisation, Classical Trumpet and directs the MNU Jazz Ensemble, which performed with the MNU Heritage Choir at the Kansas State Music Educator's Conference (KMEA) in 2022.
He is an active clinician/adjudicator/guest artist for Jazz Festivals and Events across the USA.

Nall holds a B.M. Jazz Studies from University of Missouri-Kansas City.
